NUMERACY:

Number, multiplication and division

2D and 3D Shapes

Fractions

Measurement – Measure, order and compare object using familiar metric units of length, mass and capacity.

 

LITERACY

Writing: Procedure texts

  • Plan, draft and publish texts
  • Use genre features (structure, headings, diagrams) of texts in their own writing
  • Re-read and edit writing
  • Re visiting recount writing

 Reading:

  • Identify the audience and purpose of different types of procedural texts
  • Discuss the impact of the features of texts, and how and why they change based on the text type
  • Focus on reading skills
  • Strategies for new vocabulary
  • Understanding visual texts

 Spelling and Grammar:

  • Build on understandings of sentence and paragraph structures, and the impact of grammatical features
  • Build vocabulary of technical and descriptive language
  • Alternative spelling of sounds
  • Explore and develop knowledge of spelling rules

Speaking and Listening:

  • Contribute actively to class and group discussions by asking questions, providing useful feedback and making presentations.

 SCIENCE: Chemical Science

 Students use their understanding of the behaviour of heat to suggest explanations for everyday observations. They understand that a change of state between solid and liquid can be caused by adding or removing heat. Students will identify questions and make predictions about scientific investigations. They follow procedures to collect and record observations and suggest possible reasons for their findings. Through these activities they will develop an understanding of fair testing.

 HASS: CONNECTION BETWEEN PEOPLE AND PLACES

History

The importance of Country/Place to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples who belong to a local area.

Geography

The representation of Australia as state and territories and as Countries/Places of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples; and major places in Australia, both natural and human.

Digital Technology

Define simple problems, describe and follow a sequence of steps and decisions (algorithms) needed to solve them.

 Child Protection

This term we will be focussing on relationships in particular the topics

  • Understanding rights and responsibilities
  • Trust and networks
  • Developing personal identity
  • Power in relationships

Health

Through our focus on “Being a good sport” and “Fair Play” we will investigate how emotional responses vary and understand how to interact positively with others in a variety of situations.

Fitness

A range of activities will happen throughout the week both in our own classes and as a combined Upper Mortlock group. These are important as brain breaks and overall health and wellbeing.
Thursday: long walk/long run with Room 17, 18,19, 20 & 21. You are more than welcome to come and join in.
Friday: fitness stations with Room 16, 17, 18,19, 20 & 21

LIBRARY – Wednesday 2:50pm-3:10pm

MUSIC- Friday 8:50am-9:50am
